it's funny when..

..you get featured somewhere, and comments can be posted anonymously and you find a few pathetic comments about you (comments where the user remains anyone and these 'anyone' are probably people that wouldn't dare ever say anything to your face/through email or where their name could be clearly visible).

I find it realllly funny, when I see comments such as 'I wonder if she'd be famous without her looks? Wtf? I'm not a model, I'm a photographer, it's extremely rare I ever do a self-portrait nowadays because of the hassle of doing them of myself... Oh and such comments as "Lara is not a photographer, she can't even use a camera, she just edits". Have these people ever tried to edit a bad photograph? Or even touched Adobe Photoshop? You CANNOT edit a 'bad' photograph, no matter how you try. You need a good exposed photograph that's in focus to build upon.
I also think these people are forgetting the fact that film photographers often use a darkroom to do major edits, and there's nothing wrong with that.
I also found a stupid comment stating that I think I own self-portraiture and my phobia / crime scenes projects just because I once 'complained' that someone had took the idea from my work. Have these people ever worked on a project for months and when you're finally happy with getting an original project together, the minute you post you get people imitating it? I am inspired by many photographers, old & new, but I don't go around totally imitating someone's style. Please think about this before you go commenting on an artist's page again.

.. and it's not just online too, also in the place I study, if you are that pathetic you really have to tell yourself I can't take photographs to make yourself feel better, then look at yourself.

Just felt like I had to say that!

I'm in Cardiff tomorrow doing a photoshoot with Danielle, I'm looking forward to it! Hopefully I'll do some behind the scenes photographs too..

i think you are one of the best photographers in the world. :)

people who say those things deserve to be ignored. They are probably talentless little nobody's that would never be listened to, so they hide behind a false identity. Their opinions shouldn't matter to you, because technically, they are nobody! :)
and no, it's impossible to edit a bad photograph. All you will get in the end is a bad edited photograph.
Take these kind of comments as if they were a grain of salt. Unless these people are 'super photographers' and take the best photographs the world has ever known, then what authority do they have commenting on someone else's work?

Have fun in Cardiff! I enjoyed seeing behind the scenes shots last time. Good to see you continue to change and expand your work!

I'm glad you don't listen to those people. You take amazing photos.

They are so pathetic. I guess they just envy you your talent, they would never take a good photograph, I guess they don't even know how to hold a camera. And they think they so damn cool when they're posting such comments. Poor little kids. :)

I think that being able to edit is as big a part of digital photography as being able to print is of film photography...I don't get people who are snobby about digital processing.
I am in Cardiff this week too, I thinks it's just lurvley.

I hate such people that give negative and unconstructive comments, without showing their name. Don't listen to them. You're an awesome photographer!

Looking forward to see some behind the scenes pictures!

your work is stunning and unique. if people are saying rude things about you, it just means they are insecure and unfortunately probably jealous. keep up the awesome work, it's truly inspiring.

plus, i love your self portraits! it makes me want to start taking some!

Hey Lara,
I stop in once in awhile because you are the start of my inspiration and I just wanted you to know that there will always be people jealous of you no matter where you go. With your looks especially, it's hard for people to contain themselves. I'm sorry you have been dealing with so much crap and for the little bit that I check out your blogs and stuff I know you are a very hard working girl and that you just don't have time for everything. I'm so glad you use your blog to vent because if you didn't, who around you would have to deal with your pent up aggression? Keep your chin up.

I know how you feel about working on a project for months and then releasing it and it's coppied.
I recently done an assignment which it was an open brief, my concept was photomanip on fairytales and because i told a few people at college quite a few people have just started the same thing for their FMPs.
I suppose ignoring the people that make the comments is just the best way to deal with it, you have amazing talent and it's not fair that you should get pulled down. Your self portraiture inspired me 2years ago to be more creative with my images, because I saw you had concepts etc and I'm sure that many other learning photographers can feel the same way as I do.
You are popular no doubt about it, people can't help but to put the good ones down just because it makes them feel better and in their eyes more worthy.
...and asd Rose said They are most probably not talented beleive me I should know all the people on my course that have backstabbed me and critisized my work because it's a lot of digital ARE talentless and they are not even doing photography when they leave.

Well I suppose what I'm trying to say is that...in a few years you'll be even higher and even more better than you are now and all the other people will most likely be no where.

God, Lara-some people just don't get it. I'm sure you won't, but don't ever give into that crap-your work is gorgous because it's what you love doing. You put your heart and soul into photography and people who say those things probably can't comprehend that because they've never had something to be passionate about. Ignore them. <3

I'm sorry that you're recieveing comments like, Lara. I get abuse like that all the time in my highschool because my classmates dont believe I do all the art that I produce. I am into photography as well, they believe that all my work is stolen and I'm a cheater. It just shows how jelious people are of ones talents. Stay strong!

Well thats Crazy.. because editing is extremly hard.. not just anyone can do it.. and for those ppl to even say something like that is just plain rude!

Dont take it to heart..

lara, those people don't deserve the time of day... at all.

the ones who actually shoot actually admire your shooting skills and your post skills... keep it up

Girl... it's just because you're good in what you do! People are like this, if they cant take what you do best, they take your credibility.
I think it's worse when it's people around you, on the internet you can ignore them but here outside it's kinda difficult.
I know exactly how you feel, I have problems everyday because of this people. In fact, in the past I also had problems with a teacher... he said out and loud in front of everybody in class that I was the example of what not to do. He said I was arrogant. :)
Anyway, I dont have a wise advice to good because i found myself looking for it too. But people always tell me the secret is to chill out. Maybe it works for you :D

It's funny how narrow minded people are about photography. I did a days work experience with an advertising company today and talked to them about how they use photography. And a whole part of their team is dedicated to manipulating photos.

They're also setting me up with some professional photographers for some experience and mentioned that they also do a lot of post processing.

And you are completely right about not being able to make a bad photo look good. It takes ages to get the right shot and if it's shit there's no saving it even in post processing.

POWER THROUGH IT. Like I said. Narrow minds.

Steph said...

You are right, it is impossible to use photoshop to edit a poorly taken photograph, I have tried many times before and spent hours trying to edit something, but it just can't be done.

It is funny that people are so pety about someone elses sucess, but if you're not listening to them, then you have the right attitude.

People will constantly try to bring you down, tall poppy syndrome and all that.

You are brilliant and beautiful - just be proud.

"I also think these people are forgetting the fact that film photographers often use a darkroom to do major edits, and there's nothing wrong with that."

Thank you! As a photographer who does both digital and darkroom photography, it really irks me when people say the only "real" photographs are the ones that come out of the camera untouched, especially considering even commercial photo processing optimizes your photos automatically.

I understand why you get frustrated by these people. They shouldn't copy your work and you should say something about that. I think these people are just jealous and wish they didn't had time to answer all their messages. (Maybe I am a little jealous too, the only messages I get are from my mom ;) lol.)
Anyway, you shouldn't even had taken your time to write this blog about these people. They just don't deserve it.
